  3.3 Verbs ending with -ar

Every verb type has regular and irregular forms. We now have a look at the regular ones. Those are anyway the majority of the verbs.

First we need to find the stem of the verb that is done by removing the standard verb ending of the infinite (not changed) form. The stem of trabajar (to work) is trabaj (-ar was removed). Then the conjugate endings are put in place:

yo -o nosotros / nosotras -amos
tú -as vosotros / vosotras -áis
él, ella -a ellos / ellas -an

  Now you take the stem and form the conjugation by using the right endings:

  yo trabajo I work
  tú trabajas you work
  él trabaja he works
  ella trabaja she works
  nosotros trabajamos we work (masculine)
  nosotras trabajamos we work (feminine)
  vosotros trabajáis you work (masculine)
  vosotras trabajáis you work (feminine)
  ellos trabajan they work (masculine)
  ellas trabajan they work (feminine)


Here comes a second example. The stem of the verb hablar (to talk) is habl (ar was removed )

  Now again use the right endings to form the conjugation:

yo hablo I speak
tú hablas you speak
él habla he speaks
ella habla she speaks
nosotros hablamos we speak (masculine)
  nosotras hablamos we speak (feminine)
vosotros habláis you speak (masculine)
vosotras habláis you speak (feminine)
  ellos hablan they speak (masculine)
  ellas hablan they speak (feminine)
