9.2.7 Conditional with an "imagined" condition

The Spanish conditional can be used also then when the condition is not actually said but only in the head of the speaker.

El jueves podría ayudarte.
= On Thursday I could help you (if you want me to; if you have time; if you can wait etc.)
Yo te ayudaría.
= I would help you (if you asked me; if you weren't that nasty to me; if you crawl on
your knees etc.)

Another possibility is that the discussion refers to another subject or another part of the same discussion.

= The idea itself was ingenious, but no bank wanted lend me money.
Yo te lo daría imediatamente. = I would give it to you.
